I have acquired 10 of the new £1 coins but one has caught my attention as the gold outer edge seems to be more of a rose gold unlike the rest that are of yellow gold. Has anyone else found this to be the case with theirs

There are 3 variants on the new pound coin, the Thistle circle can be above the bi-metal border, touching or in line with it or below and completely separate from it.

I don’t think that I explained that very well so here I’ll try to make it clear, variation 1, the ellipse of the Thistle ring is above and separate from the circle formed by the bi- metal strip.
Variant 2, the ellipse of the Thistle is touching or on the bi-metal line.
Variant 3, the ellipse of the thistle ring interlocks like Olympic rings.
From my small sample of 143 coins, variant 1, occurred 40%, Variant 2, 50% and Variant 3, 10%.
Perhaps changechecker.org could do a larger sample.

Does any one know how rare is a 2016 “Shield” one pound coin. It wasn’t released into
circulation. It’s a part of 2016 uncirculated sets. How many sets could have been produced? The last data about mintage of BU sets is from 2013 and it was 35,000. This wolud make “The last Dent Pound” more rare than “The Kew Gardens” with a mintage of 210,000? On ebay the 2016 “Shield” pound is selling at L80. And in internet shops the BU sets conteinig it are sellig out.

Got one from the Trafalgar Square (London) post office. Seems there’s a limit of one per customer or maybe transaction, which makes sense.

I don’t suppose it will take long for them to circulate around if you can’t get to the banks listed. They will be in most banks pretty soon.
