Why Jemima Puddle-Duck is already the most sought after Beatrix Potter 50p

When The Royal Mint released the mintage figures for the 2016 Beatrix Potter 50p Coins, what immediately caught the attention of collectors was the minimal amount of Jemima Puddle-Duck coins that had been struck compared to the rest of the series.

Only 2.1 million Jemima Puddle-Duck coins were released into circulation, that’s less than 20% of Peter rabbit and half the amount of Squirrel Nutkin which has the 2nd lowest mintage.

When one coin in a series has a much lower mintage figure, collectors struggle to complete the set. We’ve started to see evidence of this as swap requests from our Swap Centre users have increased dramatically.

Swap Ratio

For every one Jemima Puddle-Duck coin we see listed as available to swap, there are more than 8 users requesting this coin.

The rarity of this coin is also highlighted by our Scarcity Index.

how or where are we able to sell a Jemima Puddleduck 50p coin please

    • Yasmin Britton on July 20, 2017 at 2:04 pm

Hi Kathleen, i would suggest eBay as the safest and easiest way to sell your coins. Hope this helps. Thanks, Yasmin

eBay is good but I would only send recorded delivery. Remember to package well as I’ve had many coins escape from envolopes. Also it’s worth noting standard recorded delivery doesn’t pay out for money if lost. Shpock the mobile app and gum tree are good there’s no listing or selling fee and most people collect or delivery to save posting.

    • Michelle on July 22, 2017 at 10:02 am

I have the squirrel, im not sure how much they are worth though

      • Pete. on July 24, 2017 at 1:35 pm

Squirrel nuttkin is in 7th place in the scarcity index, placing it just behind puddle duck.
You can pick one up for only a few pound on eBay. It’s worth getting one to complete you collection, full set of 5 sell much better.

    • Pete. on August 3, 2017 at 11:50 am

It’s all about the duck!!! You can fetch around £20 for a full set. However the duck alone is around £8 currently, I would be looking for around £15-£16 for your set missing Nutkin.

  7. Jamie Larkin on July 17, 2017 at 1:11 pm

I have the whole Beatrix potter collection and the whole Olympic collection for sale if any interests

    • Eloise on August 1, 2017 at 8:04 pm

How much is the whole olympic set I am interested

      • Pete. on August 2, 2017 at 10:33 pm

The full Olympic set without completers medallion, so that’s just the 29 coins. Will fetch around £50 on eBay. You could get more depending on condition and the right buyer. Putting them in a nice coin case or cases will also help. Personally I wouldn’t let one go for less than £75, but I’ve got an obsession with collecting them. Lol
