The Hogwarts Express 50p coin was issued as part of the Royal Mint’s Harry Potter 50p series. It celebrates 25 years since the first publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The reverse design of this 50p has been taken directly from the cover of the 2015 fully illustrated edition of the first book, by Jim Kay. The obverse shows Queen Elizabeth II’s fifth portrait – making this coin one of the last UK commemorative coins to feature Her Late Majesty.
